Caught in a Lie: the prologue

Hey guys! So, before you read the story, I'd like to give a small warning. *** WARNING*** this story will contain some violence and vulgar language ( nothing awful, just gory details)

With that being said, I suggest you read it, because I'm gonna do my best to make it EXCITING. Sorry, I'm overly enthusiastic about this whole thing, just ignore me.

  1. Flaming tears rolled down my cheeks splashing against the tip of my tongue. I savored the salty flavor that soaked into my taste buds, my eyes stinging from the hours I'd spent crying. I was a nobody. A freak. A loser among greater beings. That's me. I, Cassie Grant, am a loser.
  2. " Cassie! Cassie, are you okay?" his voice rung out, my heart racing as I rubbed my swollen eyes. " Just shut up Rob. You don't care! Never have, never will. Now get out of my way!" I screeched, my phones screen illuminating my cheeks as I scrolled through my texts. " But Cass... I told you a million times, I'm sorry!" " Rob! I don't care! Just... just leave me alone."
  3. Tears continued to dribble down my chin as I stormed off, my feet pattering across the vinyl flooring in the process. " Please, just let me explain!" he yelled after me, an urgent tone in his voice. " There's nothing to explain. I heard you with my own two ears. You told Steven I was a loser. You told him everything I've ever told you! Do you know how much that hurt me!? Probably not, because you're just a heartless monster!"
  4. " Please, Cass..." " I don't wanna hear it! Just shut up! Shut up!" I roared, crumpling into a sobbing mess with my back against the wall. " Shhh. Cass, it'll be okay. We'll get through this -- together." he whispered into my ear as he took a seat by me, putting a arm around me. " You promise?" " Yeah, Cassie. I promise."
  5. Sunlight began to flood the room, the light slowly kissing my pale skin. I watched as Rob stared aimlessly at the dust particles floating freely throughout the room, his hazel eyes no longer completely open. " Rob? Why did you tell him?" I finally managed to ask, locking my eyes on his as he gave a simple shrug. " Cass, I told him because you need help. You're all alone and it scares me to see you this way. You barely eat anymore, and I rarely see you around at school --" " I know, Rob. I swear, I'll try my best to perk up. Don't worry. I'll get through this. I will."
  6. " Are you sure? Steven said that he could help you, he said he knows a great place that helps--" " People like me? Do you know how much it hurts me to be treated like a freak!? Is that how you see me? As a freak?" I asked. " No, of course not. Don't be silly. Whoever told you that is rude and deserves to burn in hell. You're an amazing girl, who's had it rough, yet you're still here! Don't you see that?" he sighed, shaking his head before wrapping an arm around my small waist. " All I see is a freak. A loser. Even Evie said so, and she's the sweetest person ever to exist. If she says so, it must be true. Do you --" I began, cut off by his hand clamping down over my mouth.
  7. " Shut up for half a second so I can speak, would ya? Cassie, you're no freak and just because Evie said you were doesn't mean a thing. Now, will you please just drop it? You're depressing me, to be honest." he whispered into my ear, his warm breath tickling the tip of my ear as he did so. I gave a small nod, sighing once he removed his hand. " I'm sorry, Rob. I think I'm gonna go home, I'm sorta tired." " You sure? I don't want you to be upset. You aren't mad at me, are you?"
  8. I thought this over for a second. Of course I was mad. But was I mad at Rob, or was I mad about what happened? " Of course not, Rob. I really am fine." I sighed, gathering my book bag and heading to the door. " We all know when a girl says she's fine it means the total opposite. Just.... Just call me if you need me." he muttered, pulling me into a warm embrace before walking me out to my car. The cold nighttime breeze blew across my face, my cheeks burning from the chill, yet I refused to shiver.
  9. " Sure thing. Bye." I huffed, stomping over to my Mercedes Benz, flinging the drivers side door open. Plopping down into the seat, I shut the door behind me, placing my hands on the steering wheel. " Yeah, bye Cass. Call me when you get home." he called after me, his voice drowned out by the radio as I sped away. " That guy...." I mumbled to myself, giving a small laugh as rain began to patter against the windows.
  10. *** An hour later***" No, I'm fine, Rob!" I sighed into the phone, listening to him rant about how I should have called him sooner. " No, really, I just forgot. Yes, I'm sorry. Yeah, I'll talk to you later. Bye." I mumbled, hanging up. Pulling my blonde hair into a sloppy bun, I trudged off into the dining room, slumping over the table. Resting my chin on my palm, I scrolled through Facebook, smiling as I saw I got a friend request. " Hm. Ryan Lewis. Might as well friend him. I mean, look at that picture...." I grinned to myself, pushing the accept button.
  11. As I continued to scroll down, I found my eyes continuously wandering over to Ryan's name, and couldn't help but check his profile out. Well, all I really learned was that he's seventeen, like me, he loves sports and he's also really good at playing the drums. I gave a soft sigh, smiling at his picture like a doofus for about ten minutes, when my phone made a ding.
  12. " Oh my gosh!" I squealed excitedly, my eyes lighting up as I reread the message Ryan had sent me. It read: " Hi Cassandra, I'm Ryan." I quickly typed back, blinking nervously as I typed: " Hi Ryan, nice to meet you. You can just call me Cassie, though."
  13. *** five hours later****DING* Ryan: ' So, what school do you attend?' Cassie: 'Watercress High, you?' I typed back. *DING* Ryan: ' So do I! I'm actually new there, starting Monday, of course.' Cassie: ' Really? That's cool. You'll probably enjoy it there, most people do.' *DING* Ryan: ' Do you? Enjoy it there?'
  14. I carefully thought it over, my mind replaying the scene from earlier today. Cassie: ' Not really. But that's only coz I'm not a Barbie doll dipped in Cheeto dust like the other girls there.' *DING* Ryan: Haha, lol, Cassie. For real though, why don't you like it there?' Cassie: ' I used to, until my parents died in a car wreck. Then the whole school -- make that the whole world -- turned against me.'
  15. Minutes turned to hours as I waited for a reply, but never seemed to get one. Maybe I scared him off.... That's what I usually do. " Stupid, stupid Cassie," I scolded myself, rubbing my tired eyes for the millionth time. " a guy like him doesn't care about a girl like me." I sighed. *DING* I quickly looked down at my phone, a blush creeping up my cheeks as I read his message.
  16. Ryan: Sorry to hear that. Seriously though, I'm sure you're an amazing person, and all that. I mean, we've only been chatting for eight hours, but it feels like I've known you all my life. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. Cassie: Thanks, Ryan. That's really nice of you to say. :)
  17. *DING* Ryan: It's no problem, really. You deserve to be told that. Besides, I'm sure we'll meet at school soon and I'd like to make a good first impression ;) Cassie: Lol, Ryan. Yeah, I'm sure we will. *DING* Ryan: Can't wait! I gotta go, but I'll talk to you soon? Cassie: Yeah, definitely. G'night. *DING* Ryan: Goodnight.
  18. Tiredly sliding my phone across the table, I pulled myself up from my chair and stumbled off to bed. " Life's really been a rollercoaster recently." I whispered to myself, plopping into bed and instantly drifting off into a restless sleep.
  19. *** CLIFFHANGER ***Sorry people! So, please make sure to let me know what you think about this series. I know I started it off a little weird, but you'll get used to it.
