Which Constitutional Crisis-era Danish politician are you?

The Constitutional Crisis was a period in Danish history following the passing of the 1866 constitutional reform. The main point of contention was the two chambers of Parliament, with the lower chamber, the Folketing, being elected by universal male suffrage, and the upper chamber, the Landsting, having voting rights limited by an economic census.

The main conflict happened during the government of J.B.S. Estrup from 1875-94. The government held a majority in the Landsting, but the opposition a majority in the Folketing. There was no solution for such a stalemate, and in an attempt to force the government to resign, the main opposition party Venstre decided to implement a 'policy of withering', voting against all budget and proposals of the government. In response, the government decided that the parliament had failed it's constitutional duty, and took use of rule by decree. The main period of conflict was from 1885-94, when almost all laws and budgets were passed by decree.

Should voting rights be universal (for men of otherwise good standing) or based on an income/property based census?
- Both chambers of parliament should be elected by universal sufferage.
- Universal for lower chamber, a census for the upper chamber.
- Both chambers should have a census, though it should be relatively low for the lower chamber.
Are any of the chambers of parliament superior to the other?
- The lower chamber is superior, as it is elected by universal voting rights, and thus holds democratic legitimacy.
- The two chambers are of equal importance.
- The upper chamber is superior, as it represents the leading classes of society.
Should a government be able to continue to serve, even if there is a majority against it in the lower chamber?
- No, without a lower chamber majority, there is no consent of the people.
- Yes, but only as long as it has a majority in the higher chamber. If it has neither, then no.
- Yes, it is the King and the King alone who decides his ministers.
Should Denmark become a democracy?
- Yes, the King has handed over political party to the people, and thus the people should decide who rules.
- In the long term yes, but the lower classes are not yet ready for that responsibility.

If the lower chamber refuses to pass a budget, what should happen?
- The government should resign, and an election be held.
- As parliament has refused to do its job, the government should pass the budget by royal decree.

- The policy is good, and should be maintained.
- It's gone too far. It should be used for the budget to make a point, but for every day legislation, it hurts the country to block necessary reforms.
- It's the wrong approach. Venstre should force the government to compromise by showing itself willing. This way it's the government that's being unreasonable and uncompromising.
- It proves that Venstre are power-hungry and not mature enough for government, that they'd happily paralyze the state rather than compromise.
What's your view on national defence?
- The Copenhagen Option. Build heavy (and expensive) fortifications in the capital, accept that we probably won't be able to defend the rest.
- The national defense. Spread spending evenly over the country.
- Disarmament. "What is the point?"
What should be the foreign policy?
- Armed neutrality. Attempt to not provoke any attention.
- Disarmed neutrality. It won't make much of a difference anyway.
- Activistic. If a chance to take on the Prussians arise, then it should be taken.
Free trade or protectionism?
- Free trade.
- Moderate protectionism to protect farmers.
What is your view on 'the people'?
- Grundtvigan. There is one people, who share an equal and universal claim to the country.
- The is one people, but the people must be governed by it's 'core' (the educated middle class).
- A society is not made up of one single people, but of different classes, who have different roles and interests.
The government should expand social programs to help the poor
- Yes

Should political decisions be based on what the majority desires?
- Yes, the people ought to govern the people.
- In the future, but currently this would handing over control over the country to the rural farming class, that make up around 70% of our population.
- No, absolutism of the majority is not in the national interest.
