Caleb tried to listen in.

"Richard, we don't become friends when we sign treaties. We become allies."
Richard frowned. "Why not both?" He asked again, sounding like a pathetic little boy. -

so we can betray them later)
Caleb stood up and listened through the door. -
(
REALLLLL)
Victor sighed. "You'll understand when you're older."
"I'm sure I'm old enough to understand now." Richard insisted. -
Caleb could only hear muffled voices.

Victor ignored him. "Distance yourself from him." He demanded before walking away.

Caleb opened the door.

Richard was staring at the hall where his dad left, looking confused and very upset.

Caleb walked over. ‘You okay?’

Richard didn't answer.

Caleb frowned, grabbing his hand. ‘Darling?’

Richard let him, looking down. "Are you worried that we're spending too much time together?" He mumbled.

Caleb’s frown deepened. ‘No, of course not? Why would I think that? Do you think that?’

"I-no, I just-" Richard cut himself off. "Forget it. Can we go back in your room?"

Caleb nodded, kissing the back of his hand.
