“OH MY GOD-“ Liam exclaimed, rushing over off the path. “Guys, it’s a lunar moth-“ he whispered excitedly, crouching down next to it. -
Jared chuckled, following close behind Liam. “Hey, let’s try and stay on the path, alright, Bug?” He said in a quiet voice, crouching beside his friend and trying not to scare off the moth. “I’m sure Evan doesn’t want us getting lost or hurt-“

“But-“ Liam said softly, studying the moth for a moment. “Yeah, true, true. Alright. That’s super freaking cool, thought, right?”

“Yeah, really cool, Bug,” Jared said with a small smile, nodding as he stood. He held out his hand to Liam when he stood, waiting for him to take it before walking off.

Liam smiled, twining their fingers together. “What did you guys find?” Evan asked once they caught up. “A lunar moth! It was so pretty~”

“Yeah- Damn, wish I had my phone on me, I would’ve gotten a picture of it,” Jared said, chuckling softly. “Ooh- What’s a lunar moth look like?” Michael asked, looking over at the boys.

“It’s like, a moth, big bigger and slightly green-“ Liam said with a giggle.

“Well, how am I supposed to know that? I’ve never seen one before,” Michael said with a chuckle, crossing his arms as he walked. “Maybe you’re just dumb-“ “Your face is dumb, Jared!” The tan boy quickly retorted, making the brunette laugh as he leaned against Liam’s side. “I know you are, but what am I~?”

“Hey, cut it out, guys,” Liam said with a frown, rolling his eyes a little. “And you guys wonder why Liam’s my favorite,” Evan said with a chuckle, giving Liam a fist bump.

“Uh- Damn, rude-“ Michael said, sticking his tongue out at Evan. “He started it first-“ “Guilty~“ Jared said with a playful smirk, letting go of Liam’s hand and wrapping his arm around his shoulder.

“Oh my God, stop it-“ Liam said with a chuckle, leaning again Jared.

Jared chuckled, looking over at Liam and watching him with a small smile. Maybe- Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if I fell for a guy, right? He thought, rubbing Liam’s arm with his thumb as they walked. His parents words resurfaced in his head, making his chest hurt. ”It’s so f---ing disgusting, a man loving another man? God, if Jared were gay, I- I don’t know what I’d do-“ He tensed up, pulling his arm back and gripping onto his own shirt with his hand.

Liam frowned, looking over at Jared. “Jare? Wh- what’s wrong, are you okay?” he whispered, studying the brunette for a moment.

“Yeah, I’m- I’m fine!” Jared whispered back, quickly tugging his hand back to his side. He hesitantly grabbed Liam’s hand again, gently squeezing for a moment. He looked up, seeing a butterfly flying across the trail. “L- Look, Liam, a butterfly-“
