Beep beep beep.
The alarm clock went off. Kyoko slowly rises out of bed in her purple silk pajamas. She tugs the garments off and changes into her normal clothes because she took a shower last night so she’s good and not smelly. Kyoko brushes her beautiful magenta locks, brushes her fox-like teeth, and puts her bow in her hair before going down to eat breakfast.
“What’s for breakfast mom?” Kyoko asks her kistune mother.
“Souls. What else?” Mom replies and makes her daughter a plate.
Kyoko and her mom eat human souls in silence and Kyoko looks at the clock. Oh no! School time!
Kyoko runs to school with a piece of soul hanging out of her mouth and barely makes it. She brushes herself off and tries to act cool going into school. Then she goes to her science class and looks at Kana who is sitting across the room. Kyoko wonders what she’s thinking about, but then sits down in the middle of the class - not a teacher’s pet seat in the front or too far in the back to where she can’t see.Moderator
Davian was up early, which was awful, but got to pick up Starbucks before going to school, which was great. Showing up a little bit earlier than everyone else meant he got a good parking spot too, which was an issue sometimes. So far it was a net win despite his day already involving one of his top 3 dislikes.
Somehow, even though he was early, he was almost late to class. He got distracted talking to a friend in the hallway and had to dash across the building, making it to his science classroom and into one of the seats near the front just before the first bell rang. It's not like he was a nerd or anything, but the idea of being late to class made him a little nervous. He had an image to maintain.
As he sat down, it felt like his shoulders were kind of hurting, but when he reached back he couldn't feel anything. He pushed the thought out of his mind as his teacher started class.Moderator
Kana was already in her seat at the back of the classroom when the bell rang. She had always taken her studies very seriously, and with no friends to tie up her time or distract her, she was usually very punctual. She listened in boredom to the teachers lecture, confident she'd understood the material at the beginning of the unit and didn't really need to tune in for this drivel. All the same, she paid enough attention to catch it when the teacher made a mistake.
She perked up, scanning the board to be sure she'd heard right. Yes, she decided, she had, and she raised one hand just above her head. The teacher, Mr. Smith, stopped mid-sentence and sighed.
"Yes, Kana?" he said, leaning against his desk and looking irritated.
"Well, actually," she began, and heard snickering from among her peers. They were so annoying. So intellectually bankrupt. She continued regardless, already used to the mockery. "-the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, not the ribosomes."
The teacher looked over the board for a moment, then turned back to her.
"Do you want to teach this class?" he asked bitterly.
"No one in this class would understand it if I taught it. They need you to dumb it down for them." Kana retorted.Moderator
Kyoko watched Kana carefully, observing her every movement and the lines in her face as she talked. She sensed anger and contempt from Kana at everyone in the room. She looked around as people started to snicker. Kyoko started to feel empathy for Kana because everyone trying to laugh and make fun of her was annoying.
She sighed at the interaction between Kana and Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith was also being annoying as per usual. Kyoko thought to herself that she would love to eat Mr. Smith’s soul, but it probably wouldn’t taste very good cause he’s a bitter and salty person. Being the quiet yet thoughtful person she is, Kyoko decided to keep her mouth shut this time. It wouldn’t be helpful to interject and Kyoko could sense Kana would redirect her anger at her if she did.
Kyoko turned back around, facing front in her seat. She looked down at the empty piece of notebook paper because this teacher was so useless she didn’t want to take notes because he was wrong anyway. Then she got an idea. She took one of her purple glitter pens and wrote: “To Davian.” She couldn’t quite put her finger on it but she felt connected to him somehow.
In the note Kyoko wrote, “I feel bad for Kana. Also, this class blows.” Then she drew one of those cat looking emojis that was crying except it was a fox head.
“Pass this to Davian.”Moderator
