Who else at this juncture is appalled at the populace exploiting religion as a justification for homicide and such felonies?

They're not using it to justify things like that. They actual believe it is hat their religions commands.

There are places in Africa where they accuse children of witchcraft and kill them. ):

It could happen anywhere actually, those people are suffering a delusion in which their religion says murder is justifiable.
