Rose x Alfred
(Washington x America)
I got up that day, just ready for another normal morning of checking the status of my state. I guess I should introduce myself. I'm Washington, but you can call me Rose. I'm one of the younger states owned by America, and I don't have many friends. Well, enough about me, on with the story. The first thing I did was go check my mail. I had some of the usual crap I always got, but there was something new. A letter to me from Alfred. I was surprised because he usually just stopped by my house when he needed to tell me something. I threw the rest of my mail away and put the letter in my pocket. I needed to get stuff done, I could read the letter later. The first thing I did was go and check my garden. Everything seemed to be growing well. I went to pick done apples off the trees, but was surprised by the sight of a lovely looking picnic. I looked around but saw nobody. Then hands covered my eyes and a voice that was made purposely gruff said, "Guess who?" I took the hands away from my eyes and turned around to see Alfred in his usual get-up. "Alfred, what are you doing here?" He frowned slightly. "You didn't guess.." he said. "And you must've not read the letter I sent you." I shook my head. "You're right, I didn't, but what does that have to do with anything?" Alfred scratched the back of his neck, looking a bit nervous. "Well, this isn't going as I had planned..." he mumbled to himself. "You want me to read the letter, Alfred?" He nodded. I took out the envelope from my pocket and ripped it open, then took the letter out, unfolding it slowly. I began to read Alfred's sloppy yet elegant script.
Dear Rose,
Hey, it's me, Alfred. You know, the hero? Of course you know. Anyway, I wanted to wish you a happy birthday today. I've noticed that you don't really have any friends, and I didn't want a pretty girl like you alone on your birthday. So, I've prepared a birthday picnic for us by your orchards. I'll be waiting for you, Rose.
Your Hero,
Alfred F. Jones
I had completely forgotten it was my birthday. I looked up at Alfred, who looked expectant. But being the b---- I am, I frowned. "Alfred, you know I'm busy. I don't have time to celebrate birthdays." He smiled. "I knew you would say that, so I did all the work you needed done today, yesterday." My eyes widened. "R-really? That's very nice of you, Alfred. Thanks." He bowed slightly. "You're welcome, Miss Rose." I blushed slightly. We walked together over to the picnic. He say down across from me and took out turkey sandwiches and orange juice. To tell the truth, I was kinda shocked it wasn't hamburgers and soda. "No hamburgers?" I asked curiously. "Yeah, I thought you would want to eat something healthy to balance out the huge cake I made for you." I nodded. "I guess that kinda makes sense."
"Of course it does," Alfred said, no hint of sarcasm in his voice. He handed me a sandwich and a glass, then poured orange juice into it. I was wondering if it was just me or was Alfred being more gentlemanly than usual, and not a cocky b------? I chose to ignore that thought and just enjoy the picnic. -
