"Conner!" Kurtis shouted as he to got kicked in the chest just as hard. -

She smiled as the candles were lit. -

(That's good, but the inanimate things animate seems to overpowered, maybe give it to her last.)

They sang happy birthday to her and when she went to blow out the candles, the fire on them suddenly grew. She frowned and blew again and nearly caught one of her friends on fire. She wondered what was going on. -

Conner awoke in a totally white room. No windows, one door in the corner. He was strapped to a metal table, along with Kurtis beside him. -
One of her friends blew them out for her, and her mom cut the cake. She was still wondering about the candles.
