  As for monkeys still being around. A species will adapt to suit its environment. And as a species grows, it will expand. Monkeys grew and expanded until their forest habitat touched grasslands. Humans evolved to stand up straight as to see over the tall grass. Our ability to use tools came about because it was what we needed to survive.
