So I'm trying to think of something novel worthy. Something I could write up to get me that 50k word count desire.

That's pretty tough. I've tried writing novels, but they all ended up in the burn barrel.

The closest thing I've ever written was a few chapters to a gtq story using older users from forever ago. Looking back on it, I really felt like it wasn't my best work.

"Years ago" is never the best work in the present. Basing it off GTQ could be cool, though. What genre were you thinking?

Fictional definitely. Probably heavily grounded in a time close to modern with heavy scientific roots....

Year is 2045 and due to diseases being modified for war uses in the 2020s, oxygen has become unbreathable and a large portion of society has crumbled. All that remains are carefully controlled hermetically sealed pockets of life.
Our hero is a young man and who in need of work, found himself in a low tier job that requires him to go outside of the bubbles with an oxygen tank and make repairs to the life support systems like air and water filtration.
There are stories though about the people who were caught by the poisoned air being turned into monsters and while he's out there he hears a noise that eventually leads to him finding out that the air isn't actually toxic to life. But that the government approved air has slowly been getting changed and laced with drugs to the point that they can no longer breath normal air. -
