GUYS DOES THIS SOUND OKAY
The majority of our modern society has heard of something called spanking children--a controversial method that often deems itself normal in modern society. But is this method of parenting effective or even morally right?
Many parents vow to teach their children that violence is wrong; that any act of intentionally harming another person is punishable. But others believe the violence itself is a valid form of punishment. Even the smallest hit can be defined as intentional infliction of pain upon another, even if the pain doesnt last long. How are you going to tell your child it was wrong of them to hit a classmate at school, when you hit your child every time they do something wrong? How are you going to explain to your child that they arent allowed to touch peoples bodies in areas deemed private when you do so to your child without their consent? Your childrens bodies are not yours to harm and violence against children should not be normalized.
Parents, after spanking their children, often explain to them that it was done for their best interest--only because they love their child. In a society where abuse is too frequently normalized as an act of affection, this seems to unnecessarily add to the pile. This leans toward suggesting that love can be expressed by physical harm and that people who harm you still love you.
Instead of hurting our children--even in the most harmless fashion--why dont we explain to them what they did wrong? Why it is wrong. What consequences will come about if they continue the behavior. Why dont we explain the real consequences of immoral behavior instead of threatening our children with punishments to abolish such acts? Tell them what could potentially happen if theyre not careful crossing the street--dont hurt them when they run across without looking both ways. -
