It depends on where you live. For me, you can go to prom your junior and senior years, but you can go if you're a freshman or sophomore if a junior or senior asks you. For some other schools, you can only go if you're a senior.

Those are the grades that we have in High School. Freshmen: 9th grade, sophomore: 10th grade, junior: 11th grade, and senior: 12th grade.

It depends on if you moved up the grade scale at a younger age, or not. Like two of my friends are juniors, like me, and they're 16, and won't be 17 until they're seniors, while I'm 17 now. But that usually doesn't happen, and what Shido said: 9th grade is usually 13-14.
