  1. Alex carried me out of Shadow's dwelling in his arms, even though I protested that I was fine and it wasn't necessary. He wiped my tears from my face with his shirt and then lifted my body into his arms. We left Shadow's residence and then strided back on track. After interrogating me about what happened, I spilled the beans. Except not about the whole shattered Compor thing. I didn't think it was the right time. Gumbo and Ash also told me about their experience with the truffles. I asked April if she was okay, and she nodded with a smile. "I'm just glad we're all okay." Alex finally put me down when I insisted I could walk. "I'm sorry," he whispered in my ear. "It wasn't your fault," I replied. I ran my fingers through his hair and kissed him. I tried making a revelation—kissing Alex and thinking, "he's the one", but my mind was still fuzzy about the whole thing. I saw a big mark on April's arm, but she kept telling us that she was fine, that the pain was numbing.
  2. Gumbo didn't know much about truffles except for what they looked like, so we didn't know if the bite was poisonous or not. The thought scared me. We continued on the narrow pathway until I told the group about how long it would take to get to the Square. "Unfortunately, princess, we can't afford losing you again to an Inferior. We're just going to have to keep walking. Oath knows better than to kill off Christofer and your parents." Alex kicked a rock off to the side of the path. I linked my arm with his and buried my forehead into his shoulder. "Let's just hope."
  3. Sam was in his home sitting in the living room doing his French project whom he was unfortunately paired up with Kelsey. He was left doing all the work while she hooked up with her boyfriend, Ian. He was halfway through cutting out some text when his land line rang. He got up with a grunt as he went to pick it up. He checked the caller I.D and hoped it wasn't who he thought it was. "What do you want, my Queen?" It was the Seelie Queen again. This lady has been pestering his family day and night, asking for reports about Oath. "No, my mom and dad aren't here right now, would you like to leave a message?" Sam told the Queen that he had a pen and paper when in reality he just stood there, leaning against the counter. "Okay, yeah. I'll tell them when they get home, okay? Of course, my Queen. Goodbye." Sam hung up the phone with a massive sigh and went back to his project. He wondered when _____ would get the Compor so he could communicate with them. He's checked up on Auntie Lisa quite a few times and helped out and made sure she wasn't worrying too much about her niece. Nick came by one time to pick _____ up for their day at the zoo, but Sam told him that she was sick with a highly contagious disease. Sam looked over his project progress. So far so good. He abandoned it to get a snack from the kitchen. And then that's when he saw Mr. Woodbury eating an apple at the kitchen table. "Don't do that again," Sam scolded. Mr. Woodbury laughed and took a big bite from his apple. Sam could hear his teeth biting the chunks in his mouth. "What do you want?" He asked. Mr. Woodbury swallowed and shrugged. "Just stopping by, really. So the girl is in the Core already?" Sam nodded. "She's with Alex, Christofer's dog, April, and another guy named Ash." The teacher smiled. "Excellent. Tell me again though: why are you doing this?" Sam lifted one shoulder and then put it back down. "Revenge."
  4. Christofer was hungry. He was cold, and he was also pissed the hell off. Oath kept him contained in a small, concrete room. There was a small camera in the corner and a toilet off to the side. There was a plain black mat that he used for sleeping on, and a vent for temperature purposes. Some days it would be blazing hot, other days it would be freezing cold. This was one of those freezing cold days. Food would come only once a day, and he would only get one cup of water to last him for two. He hasn't bathed ever since he was captured, and he probably reeked. Definitely not the state he'd like his ex girlfriend to see him in. It's funny how he was still thinking about her in the first place. He should be thinking about whether or not he was going to live or die, but she always crept back on his mind. Not that she left, anyways. The prison cell Christofer was in was intelligently built. The opening to get in or out of the hold was on the ceiling, so he couldn't reach it. The cell was below ground, so the people above probably used a hatched to get through. Christofer has never been to the Underbelly before. He was blindfolded the whole journey, so the only thing he could use was his ears to help him along the way. He knew he was someplace in the Core, that was for sure. He raked his hands through his hair and desperately wished for a shower. HE sat there, huddled up in the corner, seeking warmth, when he heard muffled footsteps above him. Somebody was coming.
  5. He stared at the hatched above him and waited. The square of ceiling shifted and then a new light went through the depressing cell. One of Oath's guards peeked from the opening with a smirk on his face. "It looks like your girlfriend and her friends got away," he said in a heavy southern accent. "Oath'll be back in a day or two, and his orders was to get you all prettied up again." The guard showed Christofer a ladder. "Now I'm gonna throw this ladder down so you can get up. Don't try to use your powers on me, you hear? Or else your little girlfriend's parents are gon' get it." Christofer nodded. The guard threw the ladder down and the bottom hit the concrete floor with a thud. Christofer got up and slowly walked up to the ladder. He wobbled at first, since he never really walked a whole lot in the cell. He grabbed onto a rung with his right hand and then put his left foot on. He climbed up the ladder slowly while more guards appeared by the entrance. "Help me up," Christofer said through gritted teeth while he reached the top. He was still pretty banged up from the kidnapping, and also from the punishment he got from Oath himself. The guards grabbed him by the arm and heaved him up until he was laying down on his back, looking up at a dirt ceiling. So the Underbelly was underground. That made sense. A guard pulled Christofer to his feet and told him to start walking. Two guards kept in front of him while three took the rear. Was he really that much of a threat to have five guards around him?" Christofer tapped the guard with the southern accent on the shoulder. "What do you mean by 'prettied up'?" The guard laughed and shook his head. "You'll find out soon enough."
  6. We were still walking across the same, boring path, when Ash lead us to a halt. "What's wrong?" I asked. He put a finger to his lips and scanned the area around him. He closed his eyes for a brief moment and then pulled out his sword in a swift motion. "Keep your eyes open," he said quietly. I looked at Alex, whom inched closer to me. Gumbo's armor was shining brightly. All there was was silence as all of us stared out into the unknown. Suddenly there was a big rumble in the ground; like a roll of thunder. I looked down and could feel something moving under my feet. April was stumbling to and fro, trying to regain her balance from the massive disturbance. It was like an earthquake underground. Then it stopped. Gumbo sniffed the ground and looked at Ash. "What the bloody hell was that?" Ash cautiously knelt to the ground and put his ear to it. "Psst," something whispered from the bushes.
  7. It turns out April heard it too, because she was looking for the source. "Over here!" The thing called. I took Alex's hand and brought him over with me to a bush with weird looking orange berries. There was a small rustle, and then a goblin popped out. I jumped back a little bit because the goblin was kind of...gross looking. No offense to him of course. He put a hand to his mouth and called out to Ash and Gumbo. "Ayo, pretty boy and the dog! Come 'ere!" The goblin had a slight New York accent. Ash followed Gumbo to the bush, turning back to look at the ground once more. Ash joined me by my side, next to April. "What do you want?" Well that was kind of rude. I can't blame him though, Ash is probably stressed out. The goblin snickered. "I'm 'ere to do business with ya'. Call me Gritzo." I looked at the others and back at Gritzo. "What kind of business?" The goblin peered around us to the ground where the rumbling began. "I'd rather discuss this in my headquarters. Wouldn't want that lizatour interfering now, do ya'?" Gritzo spread the bush wide open to reveal a hole in the ground. "After you," he said with a gesture. When nobody moved, Gritzo sighed. "Or I can call Oath and tell him where you guys are." I glanced at Alex. "How do we know it's not a trick?" The goblin grinned scarily. "You don't."
  8. We climbed in the hole one by one with Gritzo going last. There was a ladder to help us get down, but it wasn't really necessary since the hole wasn't that deep anyways. "What was that thing in the ground?" April asked. Gritzo held up a lantern so we could all see where we were going. "A lizatour. Nasty lil' creatures they are. Ate my wife and was banished here." I looked over my shoulder and asked, "So why are you in the Banished Provinces then?" Gritzo laughed. "Because I killed his wife, avenging mine." I shuddered. We reached the end of the tunnel where a single wooden door stood in front of us. Gritzo pushed through and got out a key from his pocket and opened the door with a slight push. We followed him through to a plain room with an abundance of mushrooms. The small fungi was everywhere, growing out of the floor, the ceiling, the walls. There was even an over-sized mushroom that looked like the goblin used it as a couch. "Take a seat anywhere," Gritzo offered. I just remained standing like everybody else. Gritzo turned around to get something when Ash whispered to all of us, "Let me do all the talking. Goblins are deceivers."
  9. I nodded. I didn't know much about goblins, but one thing I was sure of was they they liked to trick and persuade people. They're worse than genies. In fact, some of the world's greatest lawyers are goblins—you just don't know because they're in disguise. But trust me, under the business suits and toupees likes a gross, booger like creature. Gritzo spread out different containers and vials of rainbow colored liquids. In the background there were some herbs and a black cauldron that was brewing something that smelled foreign to my nose. "What do you have to offer?" Ash questioned. Gritzo walked down from the counter to April. He grappled her arm and touched it where the truffle bit her. She writhed in pain, tears forming in her eyes. Ash held up his sword to Gritzo's neck. "I don't think that was necessary." Gritzo backed away from the sword and chuckled. "Well you asked a question and I was trying to give you an accurate answer, so I think it was kind of necessary."
  10. Ash lowered his sword and turned to April. "You said the pain was numbing." April was clutching her arm, tear tracks clearly visible on her face. "It was. And then it all came back. I didn't want to tell anybody because I didn't want to slow the group down and I thought it would just go away." I put my hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze. Alex spoke up this time to Gritzo. "Spill." The goblin went back behind the counter and sat on a tall stool. "I couldn't help but notice the truffle bit on that young lady's arm. Truffle venom is rather deadly if not treated immediately. It creates optical illusions in one's head, planting fear and terror that actually isn't there. The things can drive you insane. They've been known to cause brain damage and tumors from all of the contamination they do to your brain with their bite. But since you're alive, I'm guessing your one of those with the ability of the mind?" April barely had time to nod when she screamed and then crawled up in fetal position on the floor, rocking back and forth.
