Warming my heart
Thread Topic: Warming my heart
(I'm imagining Beauty and the Beast lol)
"I – was looking for my room and since yours is by mine I just followed you but you didn't go there but I was curious about this room..." she rambled, intimidated by him.
(I'm gonna redo that)
If possible, Tessa's eyes widened even more.
"I – was looking for my room and since yours is by mine I just followed you but you didn't go there but I was curious when you came in here..." she rambled, shrinking back, intimidated by him. If dogs could glare, Sandy did. She let out a low warning growl to Jacob.
(I was actually thinking about that too. 💀)
Jacob reached into his pocket and brought out a treat. He threw it to the other side of the room, his eyes staring at Sandy.
"Go fetch, girl."
Then, he turned his eyes back to Tessa.
"Get out. You don't have any right to be in here." Jacob snapped. He grabbed Tessa's shirt and leaned in close to her face. “And if you come in here again, you'll regret it."
(Why does he have random dog treats in his pocket?)
Sandy at first went for the treat, but when she saw that her owner was in danger, she rushed over, barking. Tessa regained her senses and twisted herself out of Jacob's grasp.
"Sandy," she said bruptly to her dog, so that she wouldn't bite his hand of or something. Sandy turned to Tessa, standing at attention waiting for what she was going to do.
Tessa took a slow and steady breath. "And here I thought the outside world would be better than the orphanage," she murmured. Under usual circumstances, one might not be able to hear her, but in the silence of the room, it would be hard not to. She slowly turned around and headed for the door.
(Dog lover logic ig 🤷♀️)
What did she mean by that..?
"Listen, I know nothing about your orphanage, but I do know that it must've been pretty bad due to that sentence. Let me tell you right now, this place isn't all cupcakes and glitter, but we aren't a bad place.” Jacob's voice boomed. It was like his father's, strict and loud.
Tessa looked up at him straight in the eyes. "Then prove it," she said.
"If you haven’t noticed, we've been giving you all the freedom in the world. I doubt any orphanage would do that." Jacob scoffed.
"Continue," Tessa said.
"And I've heard these rumors, but I don’t know if they're true. Apparently a few orphanages kn your town give really bad punishments? Well, this place doesn't."
"Well at my orphanage they do grab the kids roughly. They do threaten them," Tessa said. "In fact it's way worse than just that. I was just trying to make you realize that what you were doing wasn't right."
Jacob's eyes widened.
"Oh... sorry to hear that."
Tessa let out a slightly frustrated sigh and walked out of the room, Sandy trailing behind her.
Guilt started trickling into Jacob's body. He wasn't feeling ashamed about yelling at Tessa for coming into the mysterious room, that was for sure. What he felt a little bit guilty about was how he yelled at her.
Tessa began wandering the gigantic mansion once again trying to find anything she recognized that would somehow lead her to her room. As she walked, thoughts clouded her mind. This place was paradise compared to the orphanage. You could do anything you wanted whenever without fear of being hit by a hand, cane, or belt, being locked in a closet for days, being forced to skip meal upon meal of mush, the only nutrients you ever got. Tessa was the one that took most of the punishments. She was protecting the little girls from Miss Javelin's wrath. But once she was gone, who could possibly protect them?
(AWWW THE POOR KIDS 🥺)
Screaming was coming from a room beside Tessa. It was a shrill, high-pitched scream of a little girl.
"Be quiet, you little insolent brat!" A feminine voice snapped in a hushed voice. It was quiet, but it was loud enough for Tessa to hear.
"S-stop it you dumb maid! My daddy will fire you the second I tell him about this!" A small voice squeaked.
This wasn't just any small voice.
It was the small voice of Verona.
"Well you should've thought twice about talking to Betsy."
“SHE’S MY BEST FRIE-"
A loud slap echoed on the room’s walls.
Verona gasped and put a palm on her cheek. A red mark with the mark of a hand was embedded onto her small face.
