Gwen finally gives in with a sigh. "You're in charge of feeding that thing," Gwen mutters. She taps Quill on the head to signify him that it was time to leave.
Usually it'd be offensive to do that to a short person, but Quill had insisted that he would rather you touch his head rather than his hand or his arm while he was writing. Gwen leads the group carefully out of the garden, weaving through and trying not to step on any plants that would make a trail.
Jord follows suit. The further away they get, the more confident he is that he can sing louder and louder. Only a hum had turned into a gentle melody that would calm even the mightiest of beasts. Suddenly, Rowena grabs him by the arm, and he looks at her questioningly.
"Your voice is lovely, and you know I love you serenading us, but if we keep up like this we'll all have fallen asleep before we even reach Ragno," Rowena says gently. Jord nods in understanding and continues their walk in silence, much to the dismay of the small creatures that had accumulated around him.
Ma'Tonzi can tell that Jord is a little saddened that he can't sing, so she lands gently on his hair and gives him a pat on the forehead. He smiles up at her graciously. She actually quite liked it up there, so she didn't have any intention of moving.
Jord didn't seem to mind, anyways. Ma'Tonzi felt at comfortble and at peace. Jord always had flowers on his head, it reminded Ma'Tonzi of her family. She eventually fell asleep.
Quill has to be basically pulled by Gwen. He insists on stopping every minute or so to analyze the plantlife along the sides of the roads. When it became obvious that this was a war her couldn't win, he put his notebook away.
Quill still talked though. He talked a mile a minute, even when it was clear that no one was listening during some parts. They were all good friends though, they seemed to be used to this and didn't mind him.
Faber checks into an inn. They have a little cash to spend, so maybe just for a night or two they're not sleeping on the cold hard ground. Well, maybe just a night. It'd only be two if Faber intended to starve for two days.
Of course Faber was gonna get food over a comfortable sleeping place, though.
The wings on Faber's back shuttered in the cold. Crap, maybe she would have to buy a jacket instead of food or shelter. Being homeless was difficult, Faber always had to think about this kind of stuff. Faber wraps their wings and tail around their body as they sat in the bar, listening to conversations while slowly sipping on a mocktail.
(I keep switching from Arwyn to Rowena, but keep in mind that I'm referring to the same person, I'm just used to calling her Arwyn)
"I was thinking about code names," Rowena says happily. "Here we go again," Gwen mutters, rolling her eyes. "What?! It's a good idea! We're like super cool spies," Rowena says, posing as they walked.
"Gwen can be Gwen, since it's not her whole name. I can be Arwyn. Ma'Tonzi can be Monz, Jord can be.. hmm, well I dunno. There's not really a way to shorten that. Maybe Jordan? And Quill can be simply Q, cause that's super cool," Rowena says.
Gwen suddenly slows their speed walk to a quiet tiptoe. The rest of the group follow suit in alarm, and Rowena finally shuts up about the name thing. "Everyone, hide," Gwen instructs. Everyone basically yeets themselves behind a bush.
On the road they had been previously walking along, a cart pulled by two horses trots past. Gwen gives Jord a pointed look.
Jord sighs. This had been part of their plan, but he still felt bad doing it. He arises from the bush and waltzes in front of the cart, and the horses whinny and stop in surprise. "What's the matter, you big ol' useless piles of-" the middle aged man, who was undoubtedly about to go on a string of unrepeatable words, stopped as he looks out from the cart and peers at Jord.
Jord begins to sing, full throttle.
As he does so, birds literally fall from the sky because they had fallen asleep mid flight. The horses pulling the cart began to blink and sway. These powerful, mighty creatures had also became captivated under Jord's spell. The man, who was loading a gun, stopped and dropped it, then fell on his face and snored loudly.
Quill had also fallen victim to Jord's song. That was the thing about sirens. As long as it reached your ears, whether you were an ally or not didn't really matter. He rested his head against some tree bark and began to snore softly.
"You heard about that group that went to see the wizard?" A muscular guy with frizzy green hair asks his friend.
"Which one?" His fat, black haired friend asks with a mighty, drunken laugh.
"The most recent one. I heard from that old man down at the butcher shop that the group had a half giant with them, and they all still got slaughtered," The frizzy haired guy says.
His friend laughs again, everything seemed to be funny to him. "No way! I heard that a person actually made it to the wizard, and you wanna know what they asked for? To have his husband resurrected!"
"Ha! Couldn't be me. I'd ask for tons of gold. Maybe a castle," the green haired guy wiggles his eyebrows.
The black haired guy suddenly focuses on Faber, who was sitting close to them but not contributing to the conversation at all.
"See something you like, sir?" He asks with a snarl. "Yeah, kid, mind yer own business," the green haired one says, slamming his huge cup down on the table, with beer sloshing around everywhere. Faber doesn't answer them, which they seem to think is hilarious. "You mute or something, kiddo?" The black haired one asks. "Careful, Fritz. They might be a retard," the green haired one says.
Rowena is suddenly shaken awake, staring up at Jord. "S-Sorry," he says sheepishly. Around them are sleeping animals, namely birds, a few owls, and this one bat for some reason. There were a few in the road, but most are in the woods surrounding the road.
"Help me wake everyone, we knew this was gonna happen," Rowena says as Jord pulls her up, though he's not very strong at all and she mostly pulls herself up. He nods and walks towards Quill.
Gwen is woken up with her sister in her face, blowing hot breath straight into her nose. She sits up quickly and coughs. "God, that's rancid," she says as she punches Rowena on the shoulder. Rowena giggles and runs towards the cart, careful to step over the sleeping middle aged man.
Gwen follows her, and bends down to take his gun while she was at it. She looks in the cart and sighs when she sees another guy, this one much thicker. "We'll have to get him out of here," she says. "I know," Rowena says in a thinking pose.
Jord has a very annoyed Quill following close to him as he goes up to the cart. Quill hated being woken up. Jord helps his elf friend into the cart and checks his head to make sure Ma'Tonzi was still there, which she was.
Jord looks worriedly at the giant sleeping man in the cart. "Maybe we can push him out, but then Jord can sing another song to make him fall asleep again," Rowena suggests. Jord shakes his head. He holds up five fingers at Rowena. She snaps, like she remembered something, "Darn, he's already over his limit. He had me, Gwen, Quill, and these two guys fall asleep, along with every animal in close proximity."
Ma'Tonzi had finally waken up. She blinks. They were in a cart, with some random guy. Ma'Tonzi is.. very confused, to say the least. The group were sharing suggestions on how they should get him out of there.
Ah, okay, so she had slept through the plan, from the looks of it. They were supposed to steal the first cart that passed them so they could reach Ragno quicker. She didn't really have any ideas on how to move the guy though, so she flutters around, trying to lift everyone's spirits.
