  The general plot revolves around an allegedly overpopulated world and the Governments Procrustean attempts to arrest the symptoms of population growth and scarcity amongst the Earth's resources. In this turmoil, the democratic government has been overthrown and a totalitarian Government has been put in its place. Laws established by the regime prohibit a family from having more than two children (any more will be killed). A boy and a girl are 3rd children. The boy is really a third child, but he is not that sure the girl is. The girl is not really a 3rd child, but is posing as one. The girl falls in love with the boy, but the girl has to turn him in for the money. She tries to find a way not to turn them in. They both go to a boarding school called Hendricks.

  Mr.Timber opened the car door. He handed me a sheet of paper, and I slid it into my pocket. I got out of the car. "Well." Mr.Timber said. "Were here." We both walked into the building, to the office. "Papers for Lee Grant." Mr.Timber said and handed the lady the papers. The lady took them and scanned them. "Okay. That's all I will need." The plump lady looked up and smiled. "What about my classes?" I asked, but the lady ignored me.
