two hops forward, one skip down,
across time and back again,
just a few hours from now,
in your mind you can see,
a forest, gnarled and old,
and you sit alone on a blackened tree.
all these years speaking poetry,
all these words through your leaves,
can't they hear? your saying 'rescue me'.
i wonder how many voices you've thrown,
how many leaves thrown to their feet,
when your words pass through unknown.
how many times will your bark whisper in the night
before your hear for who you are, for what you've said, and the message translates right -
