"Quite exhilarating, yes. Buckle up." I fastened my own seat belt and glanced over at Holley.
-
I buckled up. "Ready." I said.
-
"Good. I have an odd feeling that there's more to this than just a robbery." I shifted the car into gear and pulled out onto the road. If you asked any random driver on the street, they would definitely point me out as a potential 'DUI' suspect. My driving habits were... erratic... to say the least. It wasn't my fault; I just prioritized my job most of the time.
-
"It's usually always more than a robery," I say..
-
I nodded, glancing over at Holley for a brief moment. I scanned the stores on either side of the street, finally seeing our destination.
-
"It hasn't even officially been open," I say.
-
"Opening day was a week from today." I parked the car in the small parking lot outside of the shop and pulled the key out of the ignition.
-
I opened my door and got out. "Let's investigate." I say.
-
"Let's," I agreed, exiting the car and locking it. I followed Holley over to the front door, where a local police officer was interviewing an old man, whom I presumed to be the owner of the shop.
-
The police officer saw us approach. "Thank you for coming," he said.
-
I nodded curtly. "You call, we come. We're like the puppy of crime investigation." I smirked a bit, receiving a weird look from the shop owner as a result.
-
"Hi," I said holding out my hand," I'm Holley Lockhart."
-
The police officer shook her hand. "Officer Landon Hughes. A pleasure."
I shrugged. "Not really, given the circumstances." -
"This is my partner, Trent LeDeos." I said.
-
I offered him a tight smile, raising a hand. I wasn't once for the traditional handshake, and given by his facial expression, the officer had no intent of doing so.
"So, I'll leave you two to it. We've left the scene untouched inside; feel free to look around."
I took this as a cue to slip into the shop.
