I stopped the car by the lake, getting out and looking at the beautiful sunset.

After signing in, I grabbed a key off of the wall and headed to a room. Usually they wouldn't give rooms to less than two people, but not many people had signed in yet. -

I sighed and looked at my surroundings, for somewhere to go... -
I reached the small, musty room. It had once been a custodial closet; the antiseptic smell was still faintly noticeable, clinging to the old walls.

I got back in my car, closing the door.

There was a cot pushed up against the back wall with a few springs tearing through the thin mattress. I sat down on this, the rusty springs creaking as I did so. Home. If I had to chose anywhere, this would probably be it. Room 3, third door down in the homeless shelter.

I drove away from the lake.

The air was heavy with dust. No matter how much cleaning they did in this place they couldn't get the old debris out. It was roof over my head, so I wasn't about to complain.

The next day I woke up in my car. I must have fallen asleep by the lake.

I woke up on the floor, leaning against the wall. I had resolved to not sleep on the cot. It had been too short and uncomfortable. I didn't bother grabbing breakfast before leaving.
