So, the charries in this will be either wolves, foxes, or feral dogs. Markings must be natural, and keep in mind that any injury or disability would probably cause the pack to abandon the individual.
So, beyond the human city limits, there's a forest. This forest is rarely visited by the humans in the city, but a few humans accidentally cause a fire in the forest. The forest is home to three large packs: the wolves, the foxes, and the mutts. These three packs have been always been rivals and have been fighting for permanent control over the forest. But when the humans accidentally start a fire, most of the pack members are killed. The few survivors (our characters) are forced to unite in their ruined home or die. -
