I dozed off after a few minutes.

After he'd traced every pattern multiple times, he grabbed a barf bag and a pen, doodling on it.

I turned over in my sleep.

He glanced up from the tic-tac-toe game he was playing with himself and looked over at her.

I continued to sleep peacefully.

He returned to his game. X won, again. It was no fun playing against himself. He was just too clever for himself.

I woke to the plane jerking forward.

He looked up, wide-eyed.

I looked over at him. "Do you think...?" I asked, not finishing.

He shook his head. "Can't be..."

I looked around on high alert, looking for anything that could be them.

He listened, watching the other people on the plane for anything suspicious. They wouldn't endanger all these other people just to get us. They aren't idiots.

I made my hands into fists. Digging my nails into my palms.

"Piper, relax. I'm sure it wasn't them. I'm sure everything's perfectly fine," he whispered.

"I hope you're right." I whispered back.
