I actually got this idea last ngiht when I was throwing around random story ideas. :/
Yes, it's crap, like most of my ideas.
The setting of the story is on the island of Muun Saari (which is also finnish for "other island"). The island is basically in the middle of the North Pacific ocean, although it's slightly closer to Australia.
As you can guess from the warm area it's in, the only snow on Muun Saari is found in the northern part of the island during winter. And even in winter, snow is rare.
Muun Saari know a bit about the larger continents (Australia, Russia, China, America, etc.), but hides itself from them.
The main reason is because there are a few humans on Muun Saari, but there are also several other races native to the island. One of them are the kendani.
The kendani are naturally small - the average adult grows to be 8 and a half inches.
They are rare and have no parents (I'll explain! xD).
They are also mute, as they have no need for normal speech. They communicate with numerous high-pitched sounds, too high for the human ear to pick up.
When Christopher Colombus discovered America, remember that he was also the first man to sail around the world.
During this trip, he discovered Muun Saari as well.
The kendani have no parents, because they form in crystals.
If you aren't slightly confused by that, you have no brain.
There is only one cave on planet earth with the right warm temperatures, moisture in the air, and a few other things that cause these rare crystals to form. It's on Muun Saari, which is why the kendani can only be found there.
The crystals form for 27 months on average before the break open, and ta-da, kendani! (xP)
The kendani's minds develop rapidly their first week of life, and they usually begin walking and communicating with other kendani during that first week.
But the "kendani crystals" are also worth more than any other material on earth - which is why Colombus and his crew took all they could find, killing nearly hundreds of unborn kendani, making them rarer than they already were.
Eventually Colombus and his crew were chased off Muun Saari by two "monsters" (more about those later. :P)
If you've studied history well, you also know that Colombus died on his trip back to Europe, keeping all his information about Muun Saari a secret.
The two "monsters" really were monsters - in a way.
They are really more like mutant humans.
These "monsters" are extreemly human-like, except for their ears, which are wolf-like and very sensitive, making them able to hear and understand the kendani.
The "monsters" are four times as powerful as normal humans, and larger, making them perfect gaurdians for the kendani, who are defenseless for the most part.
Tody, the "monsters" are known as the staratel.
There are only two staratel in existance at the same time. The guardian of the kendani, and his apprentice, who takes over as guardian when the mentor dies. Nobody knows the science behind this, as staratel also do not have parents. There are several theories, but nobody knows how they get here.
And one more thing about kendani - they each represent an element (water, fire, light, etc. :P) and have weaknesses and strengths based on their element.
CRAP, I HATE MY IDEAS, THEY'RE SO LONG!! DX
Anyway, the soap could be if humans from the mainlands found Muun Saari again, and again, started taking the crystals that contain unborn kendani once again. :P
And no, if you decide you like my crappy idea, you don't have to be staratel or kendani. I already said, there are multiple races on muun saari, including a few humans.
