  It doesn't really have to do with pirates and buried treasure.
  It has to do with British executions.

  I've always wondered where the term came from because there is no way anyone in those days would use a term that originated from pirates! The vast vast majority of pirates didn't even bury treasure, Captain William Kidd was pretty much the only one that would.
