my favorite supernatural creatures are kitsunes, banshees, werewolves (shhhh), hell hounds, stuff like that
maaan I feel you with the independent thing, i am always caught between using it for gtq soaps or my own stories -

okay okay whAT IF
our characters live in a small town where there's a medium sized werewolf pack
and allow me to briefly nerd out but according to this (yeah tumblr isn't always reliable but i'm p sure this is accurate), north american werewolves would be 100x less likely to kill than their european counterparts
but because they're also human half of the time, they'd probably be able to figure out diplomatic stances and treaties between each other
and assuming they live somewhere like northern new york, vermont, new hampshire, or maine, it'd be totally likely for the two to have gradually blended together and created packs where they're mixed/a potentially dangerous blend of the two types of wolf
so they could be potentially threatening but also not threatening, sometimes within the same pack
but most humans don't know about the werewolves, and they're ignored for the most part. that is, however, until one of the most violent pack members murders at least one human from town. a young cop, new to the scene and probably from a larger city in the state (maybe the departments were like "hey this town needs help can u move" and they were up for it) is assigned to the case and, upon having no leads whatsoever, agrees to help clear all the built up parking tickets and driving violations of another person living there who just happens to be a werewolf (and maybe not a fan of the more violent one)
feel free to ask for clarification on any of that, i'm tired so my explaining abilities are not 100% -
