It's apparently not uncommon for someone with schizophrenia to overdose, but there are few fatal situations that are known. Once more, it depends on what he was taking to reduce the schizophrenia, how many he was supposed to ingest in a day, and how much he actually did ingest.

And to be honest, if the kid did die, that'd be on the doctor's hands as well. Since the overdose is recent, they would've known to pump his stomach to try to remove the medication from his body. No good doctor would just put the kid in a room and run tests with the possibility of being able to remove the substance in front of them.
