heres the synopsis (covers the whole story):
Confess To Me is about a Jewish girl whose family is killed in the holocaust and she escapes Germany and comes to America. She goes to a school in New York, and one boy really stands out to her: Trey. Trey is from France, but he has an African culture. He was abducted from his parents in Africa in his early childhood, and brought to France to apprentice an old woodworker. During the early years of WW2, the Germans attack his little home in France, along with other big cities and towns. All the people run shrieking. Somehow trey finds himself lost in the crowd, looking for a familiar face, his mothers. He knew in a time like this that she would comfort him, take him to safety. But, knowing she was killed long ago, he loses hope. A young couple finds him, and brings him to England, where eventually they succeed to get on a ship to America. With great difficulty, trey adjusts to his new mother and father, though they do not speak the same language. Trey adjusts to the new school in New York with great difficulty. He was made fun of, and whipped by the teachers many times because of lack of respect. When June comes to the school, though, Trey begins to have hope. June brought out the best in Trey, and eventually they become friends. One day they sit on a hillside overlooking the bay on a very sunny day. Trey unveils his whole past to June, knowing she can be trusted. June, not fully trusting anybody in America yet, stutters as she tries to confess to Trey about her rough life before this one. She can’t find herself to do it. As trey and June become older, and eventually into their teen years, their relationship grows. But yet, June still hasn’t revealed her history. This book is about the struggles and good times of Trey and June, and their relationship. June reveals her past in a riddle, but Trey, having limited knowledge because of dropping out of school, can’t fully piece the puzzle together. June, throughout their marriage, continues to reveal her past in riddles. One day, June catches measles. There was no local doctor where they were living at the time. Trey would never leave June’s bedside. But, despite all of trey's prayers and caretaking, June slowly passes away before trey's eyes. The remainder of the story is about how trey tries to uncover June’s history, and his mourning for his loss. In the end, trey figures out June’s history, and locates her brother, who miraculously survived the attack, and ran away to England. Trey travels to England, and meets June’s brother, Cashmere. Cashmere, because of his age, could not talk clearly, thus making understanding hard for trey. But, despite the struggles of communication, Cashmere manages to write down his family's history before his death in 1967. But Trey still has a lot of missing pieces to find. In the end, Trey does figure out June's family history, and passes it down through his family. The last couple sentences are in present time: "These records still exist today, though the location is unknown. Where Trey is buried we are uncertain, but we know that June and Trey's bodies are buried somewhere near upstate New York. The history of June's family is not known by many, though those lucky enough to posses it, in all your greatest intentions; keep the tale alive."
