"Mommy!" The little girl screeched. The family was packing, bags flying into the car. No response. "MOMMY!" She cried again. Her mother shot her a glare, her father has an upset face, brother with headphones in his ears. Everything was in the car, except her and her stuff.
No response still. The car was started up. One last glare before they drove away. She was left behind.
Soon, a man in a red suit seemed to appear behind her. His hand was on her shoulder. In a false sad voice, he murmured, "They thought you were a mistake. They didn't want you." Tears flowed down her cheeks. "You'll be coming with us. We have a home. What's your name?"
The five year old hesitated. She grabbed a strip of her blonde hair and pressed it against her lips. In a small voice, she said, "Alexandria Lee Cooper..."
The man smiled down at her. He carefully lead her to a van parked across the street. "Alex, my dear, you'll be ditching that name. You'll be known as #05.
Experiment #05."

Alex's POV
I straddled my hair as he walked me to the van. I straddled my hair as I was put into a seat, seat belt buckled. I straddled it as we drove away from my home, and as we got to their headquarters.
#05.. Are there other little girls like me? Do they have numbers?
I didn't ask the question aloud. I thought it'd be rude. After all, these people in red, they had saved me.
Right?
The one who I first met looked over at me. At this point I was able to get a look at his face. He had red eyes that were the same color as his hair, a bright fiery red. He wore black sunglasses on his head like my Dad used to wear. As I began to ponder over this, he glanced over at me.
"#05, if you keep staring at me, surely your eyes will fall out," He chuckled. "I know you're asking many questions in that little head of yours. I'm Harley."
I nodded politely. It was a good name. Still, I was not eager to ask anything. I kept my eyes on his eyes, his hair. Minutes of silence.
"...You can ask me a question or two, you know." Harley piped up. I swallowed. A question or two. They have to be important, then.
"What am I going to be doing while I'm staying with you guys?" I asked. Better get that out of them first. Harley looked at the driver, who gave him a curt stare, before he answered.
"You'll be breathing. We have some requirements.. You'll just be our testing buddy. Some small stuff. Drinking water, I guess. That okay?"
I nodded. Then I asked, "Are there other little girls like me?"
Again he looked at the driver. No response. The driver spoke up in a gruff voice that they left.
So I am the only one?

Alex's POV
As the van rolled into a garage, I felt an odd, sickening feeling. I shook it away. No point in feeling so bad.
Harley's POV
I felt bad for this little girl. She would be the youngest of our little test subjects. She'd either fail horribleness or hold great success. #01, #02, and #03 had died within the first month. #04, the boy... He was okay.
He'd be #05's roommate for as long as either of them lived. A cat and a bird. My pity grew stronger. A cat.. And a bird... Hmm.
Should be fun.
Alex's POV
Harley lead me out of the van into a white room. A door was open, waiting for us. My new home.
My feeling of dread came back. This time it hurt! I gasped, my hand dropping from his to clutch my stomach. He looked concerned. He yelled a few words in some language, and a man with a mask came in. Half of his face was hidden behind one of those gas-cover up things. His hair.. It was raven black. Black. As. Night. But his eyes were bright blue.
"What's wrong with this one? You bring in a sick one?" He asked. I instantly hated him. Harley shook his head, replying, "I think it's from the shock, Next."
Next seemed to think hard about this. Finally, he threw his hands up. He wouldn't argue with my friend.
"Fine, fine. Come along, #05," he hissed, "Wouldn't want you to be crying through the tests."
I frowned. Crying? Tests? What's going on?
As I opened my mouth to reply, his hand reached out and firmly grabbed my wrist. I let out a squeak.
"W-what are you d-doing?" I stammered out. Next dragged me out of the room. My mind raced furiously. My Mom would drag me, and hit me, hit me hard... I thought this was supposed to be my save haven.
I desperately looked for Harley as minutes ticked by. He was going to hit me and Harley wouldn't save me like he did the first time! No!
Next pulled me into a room that was cleared except for a table with straps and a little bag in the corner. The room smelled of decay and blood.
Nausea waved over me and I gaged. Next looked down at me. "You scared? Should be. Harley's being a bad boy. You won't be in a happy home, kid." He set me on the table.
I had a curious face. I am, of course, so little.. Mommy and Daddy never told me anything useful when strangers came by. They kinda wanted it to happen. "What do you mean by-"
I was slammed down into the table. Pain flooded through my head. The straps were placed over my waist, arms, and legs. I gaged again, this time throwing up a bit over to the side of the table.
"I promise you, the needles aren't too big. I just don't want any little detail going wrong, my dear, which is why you are strapped down. This should take five minutes. Then we'll leave you here to ah... Let you be reborn."
He moved over to the corner. I might not know too much, but I hate needles. He was scaring me. Reborn? And why the straps?
Next stood up with a seven inch long needle. I gulped. He moved, injecting it into my shoulder. I gasped as pain shot through my body. I let out a scream I let out when mom had hit me before this. It hurt so bad, so bad...
He smirked and left the room. I couldn't control my thoughts. My world went back.

Next's POV
As I left the room, I heard silence. It was unlike our other four subjects. They screamed and screamed for hours. That could be good.
I had injected avian DNA into her blood. She would hopefully have wings by the morning. Flying.. I'd like to see it WORK this time. Unlike the other failures. Those went bye bye.
And hopefully, she wouldn't be like those failures.

Alex's POV
I woke up a long time after I had fallen asleep, at least it felt that way. I was tired. Super tired. My body ached all over.
I noticed my straps had been taken off and that Harley was watching me. However, he was smiling. He gestured with his hands for me to turn my head around and look down.
What I saw once I did what he asked made me want to scream and giggle at the same time. Wings! I had wings.
They were pure white, minus the tips that were speckled with grey. Layer upon layer of these feathers all lead up to two sets of wings. They weren't very big, though. About twelve inches long and six inches tall, they didn't look like they'd support my weight in flying.
"They'll grow, my dear. They did good in the last three days, so I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled out longer." Harley stated. He stood and walked over to me.
"T-Three days?" I stammered. I had been out for three days! No wonder I was so weak and tired.
He laughed at my response, stroking one of my wings. I jumped up. Amazingly, my wings actually held me up in the air. I felt my wings with every stroke, the wind gently pushing at the feathers. I hovered for a minute in awe above Harley's head before I fell back down to earth into his arms.
"See, they work well already. They just have to get bigger," He chuckled. "I wouldn't be surprised if you're a flying machine in two days from now. Now... Let's race to the kitchen."
I opened my mouth to protest that I had no clue where it was, but he dropped me and took off through the door. I ran after him.
The nerve! I'll catch up. I snapped out my wings and flew after him, flailing my arms a bit.
I'm like an angel.
The angel experiment #05.
