  Computer Generated Imagery... basically animation done on computers.

  Yeah, I remember Arthur used to be completely hand-drawn. Now it is all weird.

  I read on Wikipedia long ago that the "Shrek" movie was originally planned by director Steven Spielberg to be traditionally animated. Next, it was stop-motion, with negative results. Finally, the film received its CGI look. Can you imagine what "Shrek" would be like 2-D?
