"The Connection of Reality and Fiction"
For many, a personal connection to a fictional character is something common and just a part of their reading, playing, or watching experience. These characters are usually portrayed in ways many of us will find admirable or the way theyre portrayed can even give us a reason to hate their guts. No matter what, though, there will always be a way we can relate to these people, no matter if they are the purest or even the evilest of characters. Thats the beauty of these fictional characters. Like many others, I know a character that I can really relate to. Hes Antonio Fernandez Carriedo, more commonly known as Spain since he is the personification of the Kingdom of Spain. He is a supporting character from the manga Hetalia: Axis Powers by Himaruya Hidekaz. While it does seem like itd be difficult to relate to a nation, its not as hard as it seems. He is based off the history and stereotypes of his country, but because he is a personification he has very human qualities.
I had a bit of a rocky start with Antonio since he seemed to be very hardheaded and oblivious. That drew my attention very far away from him. But theres more to him than it would seem. Hes very passionate about everything he does. My philosophy is that if youre going to do something youve ought to do that with passion or else youre not doing it correctly, so seeing how enthusiastic Antonio is in all that he does really brings a smile to my face. Another thing I found very relatable was his optimism. Hes always shown to be smiling or to be looking on the bright side of life despite having such a terrible history of tragedies and problems. Much like him, Ive grown to have that kind of optimistic view of life despite having a rollercoaster ride as a life (especially now, since high school angst is already becoming a reality). Were always aiming to be positive and we also work for the people around us to look at life with a smile. Antonio is also rather silly and sometimes weird. You can ask just about anyone who knows me and the first word to pop up into their mind when thinking of me is weird. Finally we also have a similar heritage, a love of taking everything at our own pace, and several other things, but to be frank I could ramble on and on about how were so alike so well keep it at that.
Something Ive always found interesting about the similarities and differences between Antonio and I is that we dont share many differences. Antonio is shown to be very fond of children and its hinted at that hes loved the idea of having a large family. I actually dont really like kids and I dont want a big family, nor do I have a big family. Also, as Ive stated before he isnt very intelligent. Its been stated that he cannot read the atmosphere and is rather gullible. I tend to be slow sometimes, but not necessarily clueless. The lack of differences in our personalities is what has really gotten me to admire him, and like many other people who admire a character. hes even influenced the way I act and the way I am in general. Hes grown on me. I truly believe its incredible the way fictional characters can have such an impact on who we are, despite not being real. -
