Honestly it's best to just test your patience and use something like WMM. It'll make using a more advanced program more rewarding in the future.

Windows Movie Maker. Comes on every PC. Pain in the ass, but it gets the job done if you do it right.

Have you used it before? Or iMovie? Basically it takes images and puts them together for you. Basic stuff.
This is something I've done with it. You can put images together faster, though, to do animation.
