3x=4
x= 4/3
reduce to 1 1/3
x=1 1/3 -

Yep! (5+3x=9) You subtract 3 under 3x and 9 and you get 6. The 3 cancels, bring down the 5 to have 5x 6/. Then you divide 5 because you want the x alone. So you divide 5 on both sides and it's 6/5 which is 1.
