cancel culture in music is just so beyond me. The real harmful actions are brushed under the rug, while mildly annoying musicians get barraged with hatred -
and don't even get me STARTED on people like Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter who get mildly problematic and their quality drops a little and suddenly their career is "over" and they're "dead in the public eye". Let people grow. Let them change. At least give them a f---ing chance to pivot their actions and content

.... I lowkey idolize celebrities sometimes (*cough* Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, Noah Kahan), but I think it's ridiculous to act like they can do no wrong. They're people. They have multiple layers, multiple perspectives
Taylor Swift is just a nuanced person. She's a billionaire who's billionaire status swings like a pendulum because of how much she donates to charity. She's a feminist icon married to a trumpie. She's a goddess pop queen who makes s---ty pop songs sometimes. It's almost like she's a human who can be nuanced just like everyone else -
and it pisses me off when people act like she's the worst crime against pop. Being a trumper or rich is perfectly fine. Why are people mobbing Sabrina, Taylor, and Billie, when people like Kanye, D4vid, and Chris Brown are allowed to have successful careers. It just baffles me. Lets focus on the absolute bottom of the barrel losers before we move on to minor problems

I mean condemning all of them does not mean I am not condemning the particularly āworseā ones. I believe ALL people in power and billionaires are bad, not just Taylor or Billie or whatever. I donāt care about celebrities; I donāt care about their lives nor their songs - if I like it, I like it, and if I donāt, I donāt. I care about their status as a billionaire, because I believe it is not at all ethical. People cannot often conceptualise how much a billion dollars is, hence why you will see people defending billionaires, but we have to remember that there are people dying. A mere fraction of a billionaireās net worth could change the lives of hundreds of families in poverty.
But Iām obviously not going to flood your thread with my political views, seeing as this is about music and not my condemning of celebrities. Iād be happy to discuss this with you in greater detail if you would like. -
that's so fair. Billionaires are definitely a moral failure, an ethical failure, and an economy failure, I don't get how people can be billionaires and not consider themselves selfish, greedy a--holes. I didn't mean in terms of humanity that being a trumper or billionaire is fine, I meant in the terms of pop music. I try to be a professional with music- I don't care about someones political views with music, I don't care about their problematic behavior, if the song is good, it's good, if it's bad it's bad. I'm not going to listen to problematic artists like Kanye or D4vid or even Taylor Swift a bunch because I don't want my money lining their pocket, but one or two streams to get my opinion on their music is pretty negligible finance wise.
