How Strict Was Your School?

Hello there! My name is Jake and I grew up in the American Deep South. I attended a rather strict private school, with both very strict detentions and even corporal punishment (paddling in my case)

In this quiz, I would like to compare my experiences from school with yours! What punishments did your school have? Did they abolish corporal punishment already? How strict were the teachers? At the end, you'll receive a custom rating about the strictness of your school. Enjoy!

Did your school have detention as a possible punishment? - And if so, how frequently was it used?
- Detention was used all the time, even as a first resort!
- Detention was very frequent
- Detention was somewhat frequent
- Detention was quite rare - you had to do something serious to earn it!
- Detention was basically non-existent at my school
Was talking with other students allowed in detention?
- No talking allowed! You immediately received extra time in detention or an alternative punishment if you even dared to whisper!
- Some talking was allowed, but we were told to keep it to a bare minimum
- We were freely allowed to talk with other students, as long as we focused on our work
- No detention at my school
Was drinking or eating allowed while you sat in detention?
- No eating and not even drinking! It was supposed to be a strict deterrent, after all...
- We were allowed to drink but not to eat
- We were freely allowed to drink and eat in detention

How long did you have to sit in regular (after-school) detention?
- For 3 hours or even longer - This was brutal after spending the whole day at school already!
- Very long, typically around 2 - 3 hours

Did you have ISS (In-school detention) as well? - If so, how long were you required to sit in ISS?
- Yes and it was brutal - A full school day + an added detention on top, adding up to 9-10 hours in total!
- ISS lasted for a full 8 hour day
- ISS lasted for around 6 hours
- ISS was rather lenient, only 4-6 hours and it wasn't in complete isolation

Now let's move away from detention and focus on another punishment: Was there corporal punishment (i.e. paddling, spanking) at your school?
- Yes
- Luckily that has long been abolished when I attended school!
Was there a maximum number of swats / licks you could receive per day if you were given corporal punishment?
- Yes, they could give up to 10 swats or even higher!
- Yes, up to 6 swats
- Yes, up to 4 swats
- Yes, it was restricted to just 2-3 swats
- No corporal punishment at my school
How was corporal punishment typically administered?
- Pants and underwear pulled down to the ankles - on the fully bare bottom! (Ouch.)
- Pants down, across underwear
- Across thin gym shorts
- Across regular pants / jeans
- No corporal punishment at my school
If you checked "on the bare bottom" in the last question: Were you required to stand in a revealing position while receiving corporal punishment?
- Yes, legs had to be wide apart, the administering teacher or principal saw everything! (Very embarrassing...)
- Yes, legs had to be apart a little for stability reasons
- Luckily we were allowed to keep our legs closed
- There was corporal punishment at my school but it wasn't bare

Where was corporal punishment typically administered?
- In the ceremony hall - for everyone to see! (That must've been embarrassing...)
- In front of the class - for all classmates to see!

Were your parents called after receiving corporal punishment (or when you misbehaved in general)?
- Yes, they were always called!
- Yes, but only for serious infractions
