Ernest grabbed an acorn and tossed it to her. "There, that's better than knives."

Mahina missed. ‘Pfft.’

"Whatever." Ernie rolled his eyes again.

Mahina chuckled.

Ernest tossed a small stone.

Mahina kicked a branch.

"So..." Ernie whistled.

‘So?’ They got to a small cottage. Somehow they’d walked to Mahina’s house.

Ernest looked at her. "Do you want to go in, or do you want to stay with me?"

Mahina glanced behind her. ‘We can do both.’

"How?" Ernie asked.

Mahina pointed to the couple behind them. Her parents were coming towards the house, oblivious to them. ‘Selene won’t let them in. You’ll have to come.’

Ernest raised an eyebrow. "If you're sure..."

Mahina grabbed his hand and carefully opened the door. As she suspected, Selene wasn’t inside.

Ernie walked in cautiously before realizing Selene wasn't there.
