So, how about one of those unknown heir to the throne things? Character A, our heir, was abandoned as a baby and raised by his adoptive parents. However, one day he receives a letter stating that he is the heir to the throne of (country), being the only eligible candidate. He has no choice but to go and learn the laws of ruling his country. When he gets there, A meets the head guard's daughter, B, and the two hit it off pretty quickly. Unfortunately for A, though, it seems that one of his great uncles has been watching the throne for quite a while, and plans to take it from A. So basically A and B have to get rid of the evil uncle while ruling the country together.
Gender roles can be switched. I'd like to be A. -

Greyson sat on the bus, looking out the window as he listened to Coldplay. Taking public transit home from school every day wasn't fun, but until he saved up enough for that car he wanted, this was how it was going to be. -

Isabelle sat boredly in her room, a discarded book laying next to her. She was loaded with homework she didn't want to do, as she'd rather hang out with her dad in the dungeon. -
The bus stopped, and Greyson got off. He walked the five blocks to his house and headed inside.
"Hey sweetie, how was school? There's a letter on your bed, just so you know." His mom, who was sitting at the dining room table doing something on her computer, smiled at him.
"Thanks, Mom," he muttered, taking the stairs two at a time. He grabbed the letter on his bed and sat down, ripping it open. His name and address weren't lazily scribbled on, but were hand-calligraphed in blue ink. He didn't recognize the name on the return address, or the address of the place itself. It definitely wasn't anywhere nearby. Or even in the United States. -
Izzy yawnwed and closed her eyes, falling asleep for about 30 minutes until her dad, Josheph barged in, looking quite excited. "Wake up, Izzy!" he exclaimed, jostling her shoulder. She groaned and sat up, 'what, dad...?"
"We're going to have a new leader, the kingdom is saved!"
she raised an eyebrow, "...okay..." -
*yawned

He read the letter once, then twice. He looked for any sign that it was a prank, and found none. There was a phone number on the paper. He headed downstairs with the letter and the envelope, showing his mother.

Her dad still looked pretty excited, "now we don't have to send you to a boarding school."
"You were gonna send me to a boarding school???!!!"
"heh, yeah, only to protect you though, sweety."
"well you could've at least told me..." izzy growled stubbornly. Her dad just laughed and kissed her forehead. -
The two discussed it for a while. This was also the time when Greyson discovered that he was adopted. Eventually they decided to call the phone number.

Izzy sighed.
"Anyway," her dad said, "we've sent a letter. He should be contacting us very soon."
Then, as if on cue, they heard the royal phone upstairs ring.
