Thread Topic: Question abt getting evaluated
-
Ok so I think I might have social anxiety or adhd or both and I want to get evaluated but I am terrified to ask my adults to get me evaluated.. pls help ðŸ˜
And I already considered writing a letter or sending it as an email but I am too anxious to -
Well, you have to have your parents involved if you're a minor, unfortunately, because you use their insurance. I was 18 when I got evaluated. I won't go into the specifics of how it happened, but I waited until I had a mental crisis to be evaluated. The best thing to do is talk to your parents openly first to see what they have to say. If that doesnt work out, I believe reaching out to your school might provide some support. But, I'm not sure how to otherwise get support as a minor if your parents aren't willing to help.

Ty for the advice how would I bring it up to them tho?
-
Just have an open conversation. Let them know that you havent been okay lately. Tell them what you've been experiencing and express how you would like to get help with it.

If you have a therapist, bring it up to them first. Talking to your doctor/pediatrician may work too, that's what I did first
Otherwise, I personally would suggest that you mention how you are curious about certain things your brain does. Maybe tell them you're questioning if you're some form of neurodivergence, or simply ask them why you think you're so different than other people who are "normal"
Obviously I don't know your parents or your situation, but I would just be open and honest. If you don't feel comfortable enough to do that, then I would talk to a doctor first -
Ok ty guys for the advice. I'll try my best ig.. I might just tell them one at a time 😞
