She noticed the other then, glancing up, blue eyes like liquid blue topaz. She ducked down again, pretending to have not seen him.

I was closer, and closer, and closer. 'You are a feather' I told myself as I was only a few yards away. I stepped closer, untill I was able to touch her. I tapped her lightly on the shoulder.

She glanced over her shoulder, and smiled sadly. She didn't say a word, just stood there.

"Hello," I said, a small smile starting to form on my face.

She tilted her head, eyes widening. Words. That was something she hadn't heard in forever.
She looked around, then found a stick, crouching down, she wrote in the dirt while using the other arm to hug her knees 'Hi'. -
"Can you speak," he asked,"I won't hurt you, I promise."

She looked up at him, opening her mouth as if to speak. She coughed, a dry sound, then shook her head.
She wrote in the dirt, her hand shaking 'I..can't anymore..' -
"Then I will reteach you," He said firmly.

Her eyes glowed slightly, and she brushed her hair out of her eyes sadly. How? Came the response, entering the boy's head clearly.

"You will see." He said.

She blinked, not convinced. -
"You can tust me," I said.
