We spent years in cold dispute,
me trying to pinpoint which was the real you,
of all the masks you showed to me,
in hopes of making it easier to flee.
Never trusting, never to rest.
Never think about how it would end.
You remember it well, this failed attempt,
my desire to be your friend.
You finally understand you're wrong,
so you go on and lose it all.
Forfeit your reason, forget your pain.
Leave behind all life threw your way.
You want to erase your dreams,
make me forget my memories.
Remove yourself from my past,
and hide yourself behind bullet proof glass.
And never be seen by my eyes again,
forget that you were ever my friend.
Forget the way we'd lie on cue,
forget how I played along with you,
Walk away while I scream your name,
say it was all just a bloody game.
Pray that I'll forget you, too,
knowing my face will always haunt you.
Leave me behind, hide the tears.
Tell yourself after all those years,
you can move on and I can, too.
Admit it's a lie. Admit it's not true.
Spend your days alone,
your nights remembering me.
Know that I'm doing the same,
and grow tired of it already.
Face the world by yourself,
See the way it's gone to hell.
Miss that warmth not at your side,
and break down where you are to cry.
For every things been said and done,
all low blows dealt, all traces gone.
But still regret fills your eyes,
and spills onto the countryside.
As you step into this busy street,
no intention to ever leave.
Stare to the sky, ready to reclaim those dreams,
one last silent apology to me.
And embrace the warmth as it explodes,
and flings your body further into the road.
No conscious left, just silent relief.
And sorrow for our missing link.
Sad that you never got to cross that fence,
and in the end, this world stole your innocence.
