I leaped from tree to tree, collecting apples as I jumped. I was collected them for dinner, if I even got to go home. Today was the day of the reaping, and I was pretty nervous. -
I brushed my hair and put on my mother's locket. I never quite understood why we all dressed up to get reaped. Last year I didn't get picked, but it still wasn't over yet. I was pretty nervous...

I jumped from the tree and started to home so I could milk the cow really quick before the reaping. My little sister got picked last year when she was 12. Her name was Rosy, and she was killed quickly.

I didn't have a family anymore, my mom died in labor with me and my dad died in a very small rebellion. My older brother died in the games when I was still too little to know him, so I managed to raise myself. I still had time before the reaping, so I pulled out my journal. I simply wrote, "Today is the reaping. Wish me luck."
