I know what it feels like. My cat died back in April. I'm still not over it.

It's ok. I just have a soft heart for animals than I have for a dying baby.
Now, to answer your question... you should tell them the truth. Or just say, "Our kitty has gone to heaven. She won't be back because she's living the best life possible than here on our f---ed up earth."
