"So this would significantly impact your reasoning when it comes to issues such as this?"
I nodded, sighing. I just wanted this to be over. -
"Yes."
-
"I have no further questions, Your Honor."
My attorney stood up. "Your Honor, we request a cross examination."
My brother nodded. "You may proceed." She made her way up to the floor and stood opposite the judge.
"Now we know you have bipolar disease. Did you ever, even once, realize what you were doing, who you were hurting?" Her tone was challenging and dripping confidence. Just being in the room with her gave me a bit of a boost where self esteem was concerned. -
"Only after I had done something." I told her, staring into her eyes.
-
A single tear ran down my face. I'm sorry...
"And you never once sought counseling for this issue?" -
"No. I figured it would get better."
-
"You figured that by letting a problem sit it would miraculously improve?"
-
"Yes."
-
"Your Honor, I have no further questions for the defendant."
Jackson sighed. "Well, this has been an interesting session. I'll need time to review the case and come to my final verdict. Court is adjourned. He tapped the gavel and receded to his office. -
*Court is adjourned."
-
I put my head down, replaying what just happened in my mind.
-
I stood up and walked out of the court room. My attorney led me outside of the courthouse where reporters were shoving microphones in my face and asking so many questions that my head spun. Apparently a lot of people knew about the case.
-
My on attorney gave me a slight smile. I scowled at him. dumb---...
