The problem Christians have with Halloween is that it's celebrating Satan, our enemy. But there are so many different opinions in regards to how we should treat it. Some have no problem with trick or treating at all. I would say most probably exchange it for something like a fall festival or Reformation Day (which happens to also be on October 31st). And some just ignore it. In the end, no one is getting excommunicated for celebrating it (hopefully), but it's not something we encourage. I hope that helps at least a little :)

hey thanks for the info! As far as I know, Halloween has never celebrated Satan. It's origin is from Paganism, which may be seen as evil in some religious groups, but it's not evil, it's simply another religion
-
Seriously thanks though! I'm from a christian based religion that has no problem with Halloween, so i've never really understood the backlash some christians give it lol
-
Thank you for telling me that! I guess I've always assumed it was about Satan. But I think it's a similar thing. I understand why people might call it evil, since anything that goes against God or what He has said is evil, and a holiday celebrating a religion that worships something other than God would obviously be against God. And in the 1689 London Baptist Confession and Catechism, one of the questions is "Q: What is man's chief end? A: Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever." (That's the confession we use in our church, but not every church agrees with it) Halloween doesn't exactly fit well into that. Additionally, the symbolism of devils and such may be a problem.
That being said, I also can see why some wouldn't have a problem with it, since nowadays holidays are so commercialized and different from what they were meant to be (I'm not saying that's a good thing, but you know). The main reason we don't trick or treat anymore is because my mom doesn't want so much candy in the house. But I don't think anyone should try to stop people from celebrating what they want how they want, or push their views onto others, because at the end of the day, we all have free will, whether you think someone is doing the right thing or not.
Good job if you read all of that! đ I had a bit more of a think on it, so I hope this is helpful. -
I just think itâs hateful to call something you donât celebrate that others do âevilâ unless it actually has moral wrong in it. And I think itâs extremely disrespectful to say something (with no moral wrongness) from another religion is evil. A lot of people here donât celebrate it obviously, just because itâs less popular, so you donât have to celebrate or like it, but saying something is evil just because itâs from a religion that isnât yours is extremely hateful. Thatâs what I was getting at. Itâs not celebrating Satan in any way, as far as Iâm concerned Satan doesnât even exist in Pagan religions.
Itâs not celebrated to âhail Satanâ. Itâs celebrated for fun.
Itâs just a case of celebrating it or not celebrating it. Not whether or not itâs evil and will send you to Hell. -
Yes, I get that. I don't think I would call it evil (as in morally wrong or reprehensible), I was simply stating why I think some people would call it that. And, like I said, I know that now people don't usually celebrate how it was intended to be.
But it's also not just about going to hell. If you are truly a Christian, you are saved, and you are guaranteed to go to heaven. But for now we're still on earth, there are still temptations, and we still sin so much every day. The difference is that we have a Savior to trust in, and when we repent, he forgives us of all our sins. A sin is anything we think, say, or do that disobey God. So, if someone believes that celebrating a pagan holiday is a sin, because they worship something other than God ("You shall have no other Gods before me." Exodus 20:3), then they're not trying to be hateful or disrespectful; they're just trying to obey God.
My view is that because it is a pagan holiday, Christians probably should not fully immerse themselves into it, but I know so many people who do celebrate it moderately, and if you don't see anything wrong with it, then go ahead! Christianity is such a large religion already, but even within each denomination, there are so many churches, and within each church, there are so many people, so there will obviously be many different opinions on the matter. This is just mine.
The other thing about it, disregarding any religious stuff, is the fact that Halloween is meant to be a scary holiday, and so there will be scary things, and also possibly immodest costumes as well. Many parents, especially while their kids are younger, might not want to voluntarily put their children in a position to see a lot of that.
As a disclaimer, because I believe nothing a human writes will be objective aside from the hard sciences, I am a Christian, (Reformed Baptist to be specific, but that doesn't matter as much) so you can decide where you think I might be biased. But I have, within Christians celebrating it or not, tried to see it from both points of view. -
Also a christian. No matter what religion you are, celebrating a holiday doesnt mean you automatically follow a certain god. Like, for instance, Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ. Doesn't mean an atheist follows god because they celebrate it. So, I personally just see halloween as any other holiday.

Of course! Like I said, your salvation doesn't rely on this point, so as long as you don't see anything wrong with it, I don't think other Christians should tell you that you shouldn't. It's interesting to discuss, though.

For me, personally, when I think about whether or not I should do something, I will think "Will that glorify God?" Because while I don't want to do anything bad, I am also trying to strive for the good. So for me, although there may not be anything inherently bad with celebrating Halloween, I choose not to, because I don't think it's something that will bring glory to God. AGAIN, this is my personal view. I have been trying in my other posts to see from some other points of view, so I'm not saying I necessarily agree with all that.

I'm gonna stop now, because I've said enough, and this isn't my thread. I hope everyone has a lovely day!

Iâm not going to share my views as to why worrying about how much your every decision will glorify god doesnât sound like a nice way to live, because itâs not my place to say. Thank you for sharing your views, as I said you absolutely donât HAVE to celebrate anything you donât want to. Itâs just the thought that something is âevilâ just because it doesnât stem from Christianity thatâs extremely harmful. When people donât bother to educate themselves and simply think that things like that are meant to âcelebrate Satanâ, superstitions are created about other religions, leading to misinformation and stigma, which again is super harmful. Just educate yourself before calling something you donât agree with evil
