When you draw the human figure, the key to success, as with any other subject, is keen observatiob. You must draw exactly what yoy see, not wha you think you know. Identifying simple shapes and a few ley measurements taken with an outstretched pencil will help you achieve a pripeely proportional figure that looks well balanced, solid, and believable. Keep in mind how and where the body articulates; you'll understand this well enough from your own body. And remember, too, the essential differences physiques of men and women. Men have broader, squarer shoulders that are generally qider than the hips, and they have no waist. Women have narrower, sloping shoulders and wider hips in relation to their waists.
Translate what you see into simple three-dimensional shapes. The head is an egg shape, the legs and arms are a series of cylindrical forms of varying proportions, and the torso is a rounded cube. These are all linked at the points of articulation- neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles.
I got that from this art book my mom bought for me like maybe 2 years ago and it helps, sometimes.
