Two trains A and B of lenght 400m each are moving on two parallel tracks with a uniform speed of 72km/h in the same direction, with A ahead of B. The driver of B decides to overtake A and accelerates by 1m/s. if after 50s, the guard of B just brushes past the driver of A, what was the original distance between them? -
That's basic algebra not physics.

First, they're both going with the same speed so the distance was stable.But then each second B gets a meter closer to A so in 50 second B has gone forward 50 meters more than A.If it passes A by going 50 meters more, then the distance is 4000 cm+ 1 cm (because it has passed A)- 500 cm = 3501 cm

And my answer's finally coming out to1250 m. I hope it's correct.
