Writing this:
Many people believe in angels as divine beings with magnificent feather wings and golden halos. When I was small, I didn't see them this way.
I was about 5-7 when I saw them. We had just moved to OK City into a nice house with a yard that was alive with ladybugs in the summer. We had moved because we outgrew our old house with the birth of my younger sister, Leah. At the time, Mother, Father, [censored] ,Leah, and I made up the family. Despite our peaceful surroundings, my parents got into horrorific fights each night, some even bloody. I would cry myself to sleep in fear.
That's when the angels came. They appeared to me as white wispy things that could form any design I wished. They always spoke comforting words to me, saying nobody was going to harm me and that I was always safe with them. I remember that at one time, I wore an angel necklace.
"I like your necklace," said the voiceless angel inside my mind, almost as if I were thinking it, but not quite.
"Yeah, I got it for you guys. (^-^)" I spoke cheerfully aloud.
"But you know we don't look like that."
"I know, but my mom doesn't."
"She's confused."
"What? Confused how? Adults aren't confused."
A crash came from the rooms.
"Sleep." Commanded the angels.
I remember reluctantly going to sleep, confused myself. My mother had become terrified when I told her about them. I began getting scared as well. I told them to go away. After a while they went away. I understand more now. I miss them.
I know one thing for sure: this was not in my head. I know for sure. I just...know. -
I changed some of the names and places.
