The white light from the computer screen blurred and spread in awkward angles, and the lines of text and boring statuses mixed into ugly blue and black stripes. Her tears pooled beneath her eyes before trailing down her soft cheeks, and reflected the light from the device before her. She squinted, then wiped her tears to better read the words she hoped she'd misunderstood.
The price of cheesecake will be raising my 30% nationally.
The shocking headline temporarily burned into her retinas as she silently dealt with the new crisis. What was the point of going on if she would suffer in this way?
She would do it for her family, she decided. And her friends. And for the hope that some day, she would have a better life, in which cheesecake was available to all.
