  Doesn't matter whether Santa is real or not. Little kids should maintain their innocence until its not needed anymore. Santa gives them something to be hopeful towards. (Just my opinion)

  It crushes their sense of logic -_-
  PLUS it teaches them that lying is okay.
  
  Why they're hopeful for is the presents. They'd be just as hopeful if they were coming from the people they loved, rather than some random fat guy.
