I mean, we have this huge rabbit and my brother always carries it by the ears but I don't think that is a good idea :/

Yes. It's horrible for the bunny. First of all, it hurts, duh. Second of all, if the rabbit kicks out then its back breaks and it gets spinal injuries and possibly internal injuries.
