Like, still f---ing choppy and probably a lot of typos but THIS WILL HAVE TO DOOOOOO.
Gustavo was a young man, born in the country of Chile. He didn't have children, nor did he have his wife. He considered himself to be alone when it came to family, but not in life. He had been very close friends with a man named Faucino, who was born in the country of Brazil. Their first languages were different, but they both spoke English as well so communication was not too tough. Faucino had a wife, but she died when his first son was born. Her death caused Faucino's insanity, and soon it drove him over the edge. It wasn't long before he disappeared, never to be seen again. When such a course of terrible events took place, Gustavo found a big problem; Faucino's son, Lucas, was now an orphan. He would surely die alone if Gustavo didn't take action. So he did decided, after a long while of thinking, that he would take the boy under his wing. Gustavo did not mind. Lucas would be a way for him to forget his own loneliness.
Naturally, since Gustavo was Chilean and Lucas was Brazilian, they didn't look much alike. Gustavo was light-skinned, and his hair was light too. His eyes were brown, a darker brown than his hair. He stood a bit tall. Lucas was much more darker-skinned, and his hair was a darker brown that Gustavo's. His eyes were green, like those of an emerald. He was young, but it was no doubt he would grow to be much taller than Gustavo. Appearances weren't the only differences though. They didn't speak the same language. Lucas hadn't begun to learn English, therefore he wasn't able to speak with Gustavo. So Gustavo had to teach him Spanish. Lucas had a love towards learning even at a young age, so the lessons he was given were very simple for him. He learned Spanish very quickly. Gustavo found that trait of his very admirable. Since Lucas learned so quickly, Gustavo was able to teach him English as well. But the time Lucas was old enough, he was more than ready to begin taking public classes with the rest of the small children.
Lucas was a great student, even since the beginning of school. He had a head start when it came to reading, and he was multilingual. That gave him a lot more experience in learning than the rest of the children had. Every day after school, Lucas would come running home to greet Gustavo with big hugs and kisses, and excitedly told him about how well his day was going and how much he loved school. Gustavo was pleased. But without him at home, Gustavo felt a bit lonely. It was the thing he was trying to escape, yet he couldn't escape it now. But he'd be reminded that everyday, after his classes, Lucas would always be back home to greet him. It was one day that they played outside on a weekend, when Gustavo began to cry. Lucas rushed to his side quickly and wrapped his arms around his papa securely. "Papa, why are you crying?" he asked, his face set into a pout. Gustavo was barely able to wipe the tears from his cheeks as a smile spread on his face. "I am so happy. I thought I would be alone forever. But now I have a wonderful and intelligent son, and I couldn't be happier." Gustavo thought that this was only the start of the good years, and that this good feeling would last forever. But he was wrong.
Like everyone else, Lucas grew up and turned from a innocent child to a ruthless teenager. Once a teenager, he developed the typical attitude and began claiming that he was independent and 'old enough to understand'. He began to hate Gustavo, and his actions towards Lucas. "You're not even my real dad, and you're here lecturing me about what's right and what's wrong! I'm not a little kid anymore, and I don't want to be treated like one anymore! I hate you, Gustavo!" he'd scream nearly everyday. Gustavo was always left lost for words. No, Gustavo wasn't Lucas' real dad. But he was the one to teach the boy about the world, and to have taken care of him with such patience for so many years. Did their blood relationship really matter? Yes, he treated the boy like a little child, but wasn't it good to teach your child right from wrong? No matter how hard Gustavo tried, Lucas was never willing to listen to reason. He only pushed away, thinking that the acts were condescending and stupid. Gustavo finally began to give up on all hope, and he felt helpless. There were several nights when he'd cry. He'd feel a deep pain ache within his heart, and it'd scream out in loneliness and want for someone to get rid of it. But Lucas felt no sympathy for Gustavo. Only months after his 18th birthday, disappeared just like his father. It was then when Gustavo found out what real pain felt like.
Lucas had run away to go back to his home country of Brazil and to take college courses there. He felt at home, though something always seemed to be missing. While there, he spoke to everyone in Portuguese. Here and there, he'd tend to mix Spanish into his sentences and the other students would always look at him strangely. Lucas would only laugh, and correct him. He couldn't help the sudden emptiness he'd feel, and the pain in his chest that would rise. But he tried his best to bear it, and to force it away. After a few weeks, the problem went away. He spoke excellently in Portuguese, and was the top student when it came to his classes and studies. All of the professors were very proud of him, and very found of his desire to learn as much as he could. It was several years after he ran away when finally, it was time to graduate. The college held a big graduation party for all those that would be walking in their caps and gowns with a diploma. Many parents had come to see the event, and to cheer and cry for their children who had decided to take the right path. When Lucas was called up to give his diploma, he took it with a sense of pride. Then he looked into the crowd, trying to look for the pair of bright brown eyes, and the tall figure waving and clapping for him. But they weren't found. As the ceremony dragged on, Lucas realized his mistake. At the end, when all the students reunited with their parents, Lucas broke down and ran through the crowd. "Papa! Papa! Where are you?" he cried and shouted, searching desperately for the one man. But his cries wouldn't bring him. He looked around on final time, and ran away while still crying.
He made his departure from the college a few days later, after apologizing for his breakdown. He gathered his belongings and went aboard a train that would take him back to the town in Chile where Gustavo lived in. The trip would be long. It was worse in length since Lucas was so desperate to get back home. To make the trip more bearable and less miserable, he'd spend the majority of it asleep. Most of the time he would be blessed with peaceful darkness, and no dreams whatsoever. When while he was awake, he was haunted with thoughts about what could possibly go wrong when he arrived back at Chile. Maybe Gustavo hated him now, and no longer wanted to see him. Perhaps he didn't even live in Chile anymore. Despite those horrible thoughts constantly gnawing at the back of his head, Lucas arrived back home with his sanity still there, and without much hassle.
The atmosphere of the town remained the same as it had always been. A few familes had moved out, as well as businesses, but that was perhaps the most of the change. Nothing else was noticeably different. Lucas walked through the sidewalks nervously, trying to ignore the stares he was getting. They knew that he was not from Chile. He was much more different than what any Chilean would look like, let alone talk like. Despite how uncomfortable he felt, he did manage to remain stable. Lucas had been walking for around half an hour or so when he came across the hold blue house, the one he had always returned to after his school days were over. He instantly dropped his bags and looked at the house in shock. "Papa.." he whispered, his eyes wide. Then he ran to the -
door of the house. "Papa, Papa!" he shouted. When he applied slight weight to the door, it creaked open, only slightly ajar. Lucas was confused. The door was opened further, and he walked into the house. It felt so.. Hollow. Dark and hollow. The once clean house was now dusty. "Papa.." he whispered, looking around to find signs of life. There was none. When a neighbor passed by the door due to curiosity regarding the racket Lucas was causing, Lucas waved him over. "Sir! Sir! What happened to Gustavo?" he asked, his voice seeming desperate. The man stepped up to the doorway, his face pale. "You mean Gustavo Mendez, right?" Lucas nodded. The man sighed sadly, and stared at the floor. "He is dead, sir."
The news was sudden and devastating. For months, Lucas would deny that it was true. His papa couldn't be dead, he was too young to have died. But the sad truth was that Gustavo was dead. There was really just no way that he'd decide to disappear like how Lucas and Faucino did. Later on, Lucas would be told so much more involving his death. "I remember how he became more of a hermit, and never came out of his house. I'd have to come in to check on him. One day he fell very ill, and for weeks he was in bed. Finally, one day when I was here, he cried "My son, my son! Lucas! Where is my son? Where are you, Lucas?" and he passed away without another word. It was one of the worst sights I had every had to deal with." Lucas realized then that Gustavo had died of the one thing he feared the most; loneliness. That was why Gustavo had taken Lucas in in the first place. He had feared suffering from such a terrible fate. Lucas had learned it to late. He had managed to kill his papa, Gustavo. He finally understood now what his papa had felt all those years without him.. Pain and loneliness. -
