Im making a character who's multi lingual, who knows Portuguese, spanish, and Japanese for the reason of their upbringing and moving around a lot for military brat reasons.
Any tips on how to keep it authentic since im not exactly bilingual myself? I want to avoid any misinformation or misconceptions. -

a lot of multilingual people often forget the word for something in the language they're speaking in. i like making it funny, like someone asking someone for the jar's hat when they forget the english word for lid. also having a mixed accent, like maybe they roll their Rs for things that dont need their Rs rolled. I grew up around multiple languages so I pronounce some words american and some words british, but if these languages were learned in adulthood, they'd probably be able to switch between accents depending which language they speak
